How To Do A Long Weekend (Memorial Day Style)

So long as you have some appetizing and crowd-pleasing eats, feel-good tunes and warm, sunny weather, then Memorial Day should be a total breeze. And as a result, merry making will ensue. To inspire those of you looking for some last minute recipe ideas or a reason to fire up that grill, I've pulled together a few for you (thanks mostly to Food52). And if you're a fan of Kings of Leon, Local Natives, CHVRCHES, Lake Street Drive and the like, then you may get a little giddy about the Memorial Day playlist that I compiled. Prepare to sing aloud and if you're singing voice is like mine, perhaps shatter a mirror or two (worth it, of course).

Rise and shine to whatever views your Memorial Day brings you with some Scrambled Egg Tacos with Avocado & Salsa Verde. Grab that bottle of sriracha while you're at it.

Alternatively, welcome sunset with low maintenance fish tacos. If you're able to sneak in a fresh catch, then lucky you. Otherwise, the fine people at Whole Foods can help you pick out their best selections in time for the long weekend.

You can pretty much toss anything on to a grill these days and it's bound to taste amazing. I fancy grilled avocado and pineapple in the summer - they're perfect for adding flavor and texture to grilled kebabs. But Smoky Grilled Sweet Potatoes with Cilantro & Lime? Yes, yes, a million time yes.

Make pasta salad without a recipe. Get as (un)classy, starchy and crunchy as you want. "All it requires is good, chewy pasta, a punchy vinaigrette and enough crunchy and salty doo-dads to keep you on your toes."

And alas, vegan BBQ staples. Bless your heart, HuffPost Taste. Think BBQ tempeh bowls, macaroni salad, veggie slaw, grilled corn, skewers and portobello sliders. But they had me at tempeh.

Feel Good Beats

You can get a head start on (musically) prepping for the weekend ahead by following & listening the Memorial Day playlist that I compiled here on Spotify, but I've previewed a bit of what you can expect below.

There's nothing better than those raspy, sexy sounds by Kings of Leon. Specifically the ones in Ragoo. I don't know why I didn't latch on to this one before, but it's recently been on repeat.

It's easy to fall in love with Wide Eyes by Local Natives. It's a catchy beat that can easily play on a loop and not really get old.

I love it when songs from my yoga playlists make a special appearance on playlists like this. And I Wanna Go by Summer Heart is the perfect example. I catch myself doing the head-bob kind of thing to this one a lot.

No pun intended, but You Make Me Feel Good by Satin Jackets just makes you feel so darn good. I think it pairs quite well with some low maintenance fish tacos and craft ales.

More Link Love & Fun Finds

Since Memorial Day officially kicks of the season of summer whites, cuff your legs in these.

Never, ever has a bicycle been so sexy. Meet the Rialto City Cruiser, a collaboration with Rag & Bone, of course.

Homemade Chocolate Poptarts? OKAY! (P.S. Get your hands on ALOHA superfood chocolate at a 20% discount with code ANDBEWELL).

The art of face mapping...and what your face - eh, breakouts - really say about your health.

And on a more serious note, pain does not equal permanence. And it's OK to show people you're not OK.

Cheers to some vicarious fun in the sun.

Eat well, listen well & be well.
