For the love of Sriracha

What a week. We've got National Pancake Day happening today, Instagram feeds being taken over by  those colorful Mardi Gras inspired King Cakes, and low and behold...Bon Appetit informed me yesterday that it's Sriracha Week. Don't we already celebrate sriracha "week" as though it's our daily mantra - "what can I put sriracha on today?"

I'm always inspired by a nice Do It Yourself recipe, but there's nothing quite as satisfying as reaching for that big green capped Red Rooster bottle whose contents can be generously squeezed on your plate in an art-like manner. That chili pepper sure does lend its hand in giving our tastebuds a dance, opening up those sinuses, and even bringing tears to our eyes. What gives?!

"Humans crave warmth just as much as they seek sustenance and humanity's propensity for extreme heat is no more apparent than its cultural fascination with the chili pepper. A third of the world's population consumes hot peppers every single day and yet they contain no addictive ingredient. Instead, it is the chemical compound capsaicin that's responsible for the pepper's fiery kick that stimulates the senses." [Click here for more extremely interesting tidbits of information where this came from. I'm so amused.]

In any case, let's bring some fuel to this fire by showcasing a few palate pleasing recipes where sriracha either takes the spotlight or plays a subtle role in enhancing the flavors of a dish.

Sriracha Grilled "Cheese" with Ranch Dipping Sauce [V]

Sriracha Caramel Corn [can be made vegan by using coconut oil, which I recommend anyway]

While it may be a sriracha praising week, it's absolutely acceptable to keep those taste buds dancing by celebrating on a daily basis.

How do you like your Sriracha? Let's hear it. Spread that burning love...because that sounds fun.
