Have you heard of the Chelsea-based concept store STORY? This relatively new brick and mortar takes the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery and sells things like a store. Meaning that every four to eight weeks, they completely reinvent the store, from merchandise and design to floor plan and fixtures. Anyhow, they have teamed up with Target (yay!) to curate a "home for the holidays" themed gift shop, including pieces from the new TOMS for Target collection. It will be open now through January 4, so pay a visit to the west side, grab lunch at Chelsea Market and then scoot over to STORY to get ahead of your holiday shopping.
While most of Haven's Kitchen hands-on classes are filling up, there are a few spots left in some that are sure to get you into the holiday spirit. On December 13, they'll be hosting a holiday wreath making class where you'll be able to make your own and then either take it home with you or gift it to someone else that would appreciate it (you know, like mom). Check out their full lineup and maybe you'll eye one that interests you.
Pure Yoga (the yoga studio that I LOVE on the UES) is hosting a series of awesome upcoming workshops including "Hot Turkey Burn" 75 minute classes that you can scoot to in between Thanksgiving meal prep - that is, if you're staying local for the holiday. The workshop times are very accommodating to ensure that you have some quality pre/post holiday detox time on the mat. Explore for others, including a charity vinyasa class led by the amazing Loren Basset.
Proper Thanksgiving Prep
Is there ever truly a moment where we feel completely prepared for the holidays? Not likely, but it's fun exploring recipes and beautiful ways that you can decorate the table to kick things up a notch and showcase a little bit of your creative side.
I am loving Purely Elizabeth's Purely Thanksgiving digital magazine which includes an early bird prep list as well as healthy and wholesome recipes, from a Pumpkin Lentil Lasagna to a Skillet Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie. Yum. Perk: In addition to Whole Foods, you can now find their products at Target. There's a $1 off coupon on the last page of the magazine, so take it with you and grab yourself some of their delicious Pumpkin Fig granola.
Also, check out these vegan and vegetarian-friendly swaps for popular Thanksgiving classics from Chalkboard Magazine. They cover all your favorites, including a cocktail, soup & salad, potatoes, greens, stuffing and of course, pumpkin pie. Whether or not you practice a vegan or vegetarian diet, it's fun to experiment with different flavors and create recipes that go beyond the traditional turkey and cranberry sauce.
For setting the table, take these cues from Darling Magazine for ways to dress up your dinner table (easy eclectic, into the woods, and by candlelight) as well as these stress-free table setting tips if you happen to be playing host or volunteer to help your hosts set the table. It adds to the festivities and is rewarding to see the beautiful outcome.
Get That Holiday Glow
With the stress and cold, dry air among several other things that are associated with this time of year, it's important to look after your skin. If you are consistent with a beauty routine, then you'll achieve a glow that will have everyone asking what your secret is.
Ladies, meet Frank. It's a coffee scrub that you can use all over your body (including your face) that moisturizes and tones your skin from the outside in and is especially good at targeting acne and other problem spots. I played around with it this past weekend and can safely say that I'm hooked. Maybe you want to get friendly with this terrycloth body scrub belt in the process.
Try to use a face mask at least two to three times a week, like one of these from Apivita. Aloe for hydration, grape for reducing wrinkles and improving skin tone, green clay for deep cleansing and the removal of skin impurities and pomegranate to rejuvenate and restore.
For something on-the-go, try these Preserve Skincare Detox Pads that help to hydrate and gently exfoliate your skin with natural ingredients including aloe, tea tree oil and rosemary.
And finally, it's important to understand that what you put in your body affects your outer beauty. Here are some power foods to starting eating more of. Hint: blueberries, spinach tomatoes and sweet potatoes, among other things. Because wellness is all about adding more good things instead of focusing on the stuff you think you should be having less of.
Show It Off
And with that glow that will have you feeling amazing, you may as well show yourself off in a sexy little holiday dress. Here are a few swoon-worthy ones from Anthropologie for your upcoming fancy holiday parties and gatherings.
