This month, Liquiteria is honoring Breast Cancer Awareness with a refreshing Lady Pink Juice which is a blend of pomegranate, watermelon, grapefruit and celery. 20% of each purchase will be donated to the Pink Pony Fund of The Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation to benefit cancer care and prevention. Just another small way that you can do well this season, for both your health as well as for others.
Take it to the barre, ladies. West Village is now home to a lovely new boutique barre studio that Well + Good describes as "a corner space on the second floor overlooking Sixth Avenue and West 8th Street. With two walls of huge windows, you can people-watch while you pulse and soak up a little vitamin D, too. Another wall is covered with requisite mirrors for form-checking, and the floor is made of cushion-y cork, which feels great on your soles." Well I'll be damned. Knock out your workout and then walk on over to Nourish Kitchen + Table for a detox kale salad paired with their amazing avocado toast.
Organic Avenue has designed an autumn one-day cleanse to keep you on track and well hydrated as we transition to this new season. You'll walk away with one of those signature, insulated lunchbox-looking orange bags filled with six very cleansing juices plus an aloe shot. And FYI, when you want to retox, it makes for a great carrying tote for your favorite six-pack, like all those pumpkin ales...
Many save their detox for the summer months, but it's likely that a detox may be needed any time of year. More obvious symptoms of a needed detox include bloating, irritability and mood swings, puffy eyes, dull skin and brain fog. Not-so-typical symptoms include allergies, difficulty staying asleep at night, strong sugar cravings and a bad case of PMS (woof). I learned that just 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in water eliminates your sugar cravings. Alternatively, add a splash to your morning smoothie to keep those cravings at bay.
Would you believe me if I told you that someone created a Digital Detox Bath that relieves you from EMFs (...positively charged radiation that accumulates in the body through use of cell phones, laptops and electronic devices)? Really, who thinks of these things? Shannon Vaughn did. She founded Pursoma, a small line of detox baths designed to remineralize and revitalize your body from the inside out and support the detoxification process. More time soaking in baths at night? Yes, please. This stuff is no joke. Read her story here, along with a nice recipe for a Beautifying Coconut Turmeric Smoothie.
And as we're on the topic of a skin detox, consider cleaning up your beauty cabinet and stocking it with more natural skincare products. Fig + Yarrow is a newly discovered line that should cover a lot of your bases with amazing products that range from facial scrubs to complexion water that you can keep easily accessible in your bag for a little refresher throughout the day. Read on for another good story-behind-the-brand with founder Brandy Monique.
Make Your Home Feel Like Fall
There is nothing hiding behind the fact that I welcome fall with very open arms. One way to do this? Amp up your home decor. Food52 claims that the trick is to take a cue from nature without overdosing on the traditional red-orange-yellow palette. "Pick one of those warmer colors, combine it with something from the cool end of the spectrum, and you're done."
The simplest (and my favorite) way to make my place feel cozy during the season is with fall-scented candles. By living in a petite space, the scents linger until the morning, making it the first thing that I smell when I wake up. And I love it. Here are a few to make your place smelling AMAZING.
Boulangerie Pumpkin Souffle is a yearly favorite when I drop in Anthropologie (i.e. very often). This is the scent that I referred to above that slingers well after it's been burning.
Bistro Candle Pumpkin Chai Latte Tin blends cinnamon, ginger and clove, caramel cream, coconut milk and warm vanilla bean that can keep you company as you sip on your own morning chai.
New this season is Rewined's Spiked Cider, a rich blend of fresh apple, cinnamon and clove with aromas of buttery dark rum. Grab one at your local West Elm.
And the best way to get giddy about embracing fall? Browse through Purely Elizabeth's just-launched Fall Magazine that is completely full of nourishing, yummy recipes and the most adorable, clever kitchen & home decor items.
