I'm choosing to shine the local spotlight on Nourish Kitchen + Table for several reasons today. It's recently become an absolute favorite of mine for a nourishing bite in the West Village. For starters, their detox kale salad is no joke (re: above) and I'm also a big fan of their avocado toast, sweet potato hash and peanut butter-banana-coconut-maple syrup toast. Their seasonal menu changes daily, which they post on their Facebook page. It's a cozy little spot, so grab a plus one and go for lunch or weekend brunch.
P.S. You can reserve their farm table for a pre-fixe dinner for 6 to 8 of your friends. LOVE this idea.
And in case you wanted to know who the newest genius is in NYC? It's Lauren Hom of Will Letter For Lunch. She hand-writes beautiful menu boards for restaurants (including Nourish Kitchen + Table) in exchange for food. Her current focus is casual cafes, but she hopes to get to work on a hand-written menu for a sushi restaurant. If she can convince Nobu, then this girl will have made it. Read more about it here.
Back to Basics
I've heard more chatter lately about the concept of farm-to-face, mixing natural, raw ingredients to create antioxidant-packed beauty masks to achieve amazing complexion. It plays off the you-are-what-you-eat with you are what you put on your face sort of thing. Try this Tomato, Cilantro and Yogurt Mask. Tomato works to clear blackheads and acne-prone areas, cilantro helps detoxify and the yogurt contains lactic acid which soothes the skin to leave you glowing.
Looking to hit the reboot button or simply find ways to get a clean dose of plant-based protein? Here are 10 that you should be eating, or at least introducing yourself to. On the list? Lentils, hemp seeds, chia seeds, quinoa and tempeh - just a handful of my favorites.
Let's Get Fancy This Halloween
Shall we? Here's a little DIY nudge: Mexican Sugar Skulls. Who doesn't want a pile of those lying around? These have been a tradition in Mexico since the 17th century for Day of the Dead celebrations (aka Halloween as we know it here in the U.S.). Regardless, I just think they're fun. Or perhaps this Succulent Skull Centerpiece is more your thing.
Looking to take the easy way out and avoid carving a pumpkin this year? Here are 17 carve-less ideas (plus lots of cats). Also, you can go crazy with glitter, fake peals, or make it Alexander McQueen-esque.
